Getting banned from the IRC channel

From Silenceisdefeat

If you were given a link to this page, you're probably being warned of an impending ban.

It doesn't have to go that way, but it sure will if you don't get a clue as quickly as possible.

The house rules

In the interest of keeping people from acting like dicks, doing any of these things can get you banned permanently or temporarily:

  • Being hostile and caustic for no good reason
  • Being hatefully racist
  • Flooding the channel with line after line of text about a topic nobody cares about (such as yourself, or rap lyrics)
  • Pissing people off on purpose

Remarks on the rules

Whether having these rules is a good idea or not is subjective.

Whether these rules specifically are the right rules or not is subjective.

Determining whether you have violated any of these rules is subjective.

The rules themselves are subject to change. Subjectively.

Yet, here and now these are the rules and you will be banned for breaking them. Please, let's try to avoid that.

Your recourse

Let's assume that, in spite of all warnings, you did get banned. Let's further suppose that you feel this is in error. Then you may try and plead your case.
However:

  • Understand that if somebody banned you, there is likely a reason whether you see it or not. Look at yourself, know yourself, do better.
  • Be polite and respectful of our time. Remember that if it came to this, it probably means you've already wasted a lot of it.
  • Be coherent; be articulate. Petulant babbling is no way to convince anyone that you belong in a discussion forum.
  • Do not argue. Huffiness and arrogance are nothing but emptiness poured into /dev/null and will drag you straight there with them.
  • Don't let it happen repeatedly. If you habitually behave in ways that get you banned, you probably don't belong here. You'll be treated accordingly.

We are under no obligation to give you a second chance. Accepting this and following the above guidelines is your best shot.

Good luck and stay on the path, kiddo.
